Education
Ridgefield’s public schools feature award-winning learning programs with over 5,500 students from six elementary schools (K-5), two middle schools (grades 6-8), and one high school. The private educational institutions include St. Mary’s Regional Catholic School and, Ridgefield Academy K-8th grade. The Ridgefield Library has a huge collection of resources and a busy educational schedule for kids and adults. Adults over age 16, may take Ridgefield Continuing Education courses that contribute to employment, wellness, practical skills, and enrichment. Several hundred courses are offered annually and are funded by tuition. Topics include computers, photography, real estate, house and garden, fitness, wellness, art, knitting, history, and more. The town has many consultants and businesses that help with tutoring, testing and career placement and preparation. There are 14 houses of worship in Ridgefield, and ongoing programs for study, including Young Life and WyldLife which is a non-denominational organization for youth.
Weir Farm National Historic Site, the only National Park Service property in Connecticut, preserves the farm of J. Alden Weir, a painter of American Impressionism style. The site includes an art center and gallery. A skating center features open skating sessions, figure skating lessons and league hockey. Ridgefield Golf Course is 18-hole regulation length golf for a fun, but challenging golfing experience. There are many things to see and do in Ridgefield for people of all ages and with a diverse group of interests.
Ridgefield School District
Ridgefield has an outstanding public school system, consisting of six elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, and one alternative high school. In addition, there are two private schools located in Ridgefield. The total town enrollment is less than 6,000 students.
